Students decorated the front of the folder with a bucket. Students thought of all different backgrounds - beach, garden, sandbox. |
A fun way to communicate with parents, share student work, and allow a peek into our classroom.

Student Led Conferences and Summer Bucket Lists
WOW! This time of the school year is crazy but a lot of fun!! On Monday, we had our Student Led Conferences. Students presented what they had learned in 1st grade to their parents. They were so excited about presenting and did an amazing job. Our favorite thing was our Summer Goals and Bucket List folders. I loved hearing the activities students wanted to do over the summer. So sweet! We also talked about getting ready for 2nd grade and making summer goals. My class came up with some great goals and they are all excited about checking things off throughout the summer.

I Feel The Love!!
Dirt Party!!!
We have come to the end of our plant unit. The students have had a blast learning a lot of new things about plants. We have participated in science experiments, worked in the garden, and create our very own scientific notebook.
We read I Have a Flower and used watercolors to paint beautiful flower pictures and added text telling what makes our flower grow.
To celebrate our learning, we had a classroom dirt party! Students planted seeds (marshmallows) in soil (pudding and crushed oreos). Then, a stem (green straw) grew. We added leaves (green gum). Last, our flowers (lollipops) bloomed. We really had fun with this activity!!

Multiplication
Poetry - Rhyming, Alliteration, and Creative Writing
We are in the middle of our poetry unit and my students are becoming amazing poets!! We started the unit with poems that rhyme. We read rhyming poems, played rhyming games, and wrote our own poems
We learned what alliteration is and how to use it in writing. Students listened to an alliteration book and then create animal alliteration sentences on KidPix which we made into a class book.
We read Walter Worried and created alliteration sentences using our own names and feelings that began with the same letter.
The class had fun learning how to look at the world through "a poet's eyes" (Lucy Calkins) and turn what they saw into poetry.
