We Love 2nd Grade!

It's only October and we have already learned so much!  We have been working hard and having fun!

In math we've learned about numbers to 999, patterns in a hundreds chart, number lines, time to the five minutes, fact families, and bar graphs.  To help us learn these concepts we have been playing games, working with partners, using manipulatives, and incorporating technology.

In science we have our very own fish tanks!  We have loved observing fish and snails in a habitat.  We have wrote our observations in our scientific notebooks and have really learned a lot about animals.

We are really enjoying Daily 5 and Writer's Workshop.  We have been writing and reading everyday and have learned about fiction, nonfiction, and realistic fiction.

Summer is Here!

The last week of school was a blast!  We read under the stars, played board games, cleaned with shaving cream, and had a dance off.

Student Led Conferences and Summer Bucket Lists

WOW!  This time of the school year is crazy but a lot of fun!!  On Monday, we had our Student Led Conferences.  Students presented what they had learned in 1st grade to their parents.  They were so excited about presenting and did an amazing job.  Our favorite thing was our Summer Goals and Bucket List folders.  I loved hearing the activities students wanted to do over the summer.  So sweet!  We also talked about getting ready for 2nd grade and making summer goals.  My class came up with some great goals and they are all excited about checking things off throughout the summer.

Students decorated the front of the folder with a bucket.  Students thought of all different backgrounds - beach, garden, sandbox.

Just a few of our wonderful ideas!

I Feel The Love!!

I had the most amazing Teacher Appreciation Week!!  I was absolutely spoiled by my wonderful class.  I am so thankful for all of the sweet cards, gifts, and yummy food.  Parents - thank you for a great week.

Dirt Party!!!

We have come to the end of our plant unit.  The students have had a blast learning a lot of new things about plants.  We have participated in science experiments, worked in the garden, and create our very own scientific notebook.

We read I Have a Flower and used watercolors to paint beautiful flower pictures and added text telling what makes our flower grow.

To celebrate our learning, we had a classroom dirt party!  Students planted seeds (marshmallows) in soil (pudding and crushed oreos). Then, a stem (green straw) grew.  We added leaves (green gum).  Last, our flowers (lollipops) bloomed.  We really had fun with this activity!!

Multiplication

We had an introduction to multiplication this week!  We used different manipulatives to begin to understand what multiplication is.

Flower and Stems - 3 stems with 4 petals each equals 12 petals in all

Jewels on a necklace - 3 necklaces with 3 jewels each equals 9 jewels all together
